Cycling teams will have a welcome change of scenery as Lightsview announces it is to host rounds 10 and 11 of the Rendition Homes Team Series on January 31 and February 9.
The two rounds were to be held at Victoria Park, but due to construction activity will now be at the Lightsview residential development, just 8km from the city. The Rendition Homes Team Series is the only road racing criterium series of its kind in Australia. This summer season has seen a high standard of racing, a huge increase in crowd numbers, and an impressive level of organisation and sponsorship.
Lightsview Project Director Alan Miller said he had been pleased to offer Lightsview to Cycling SA as an alternative venue and was sure the different circuit would make for great racing and spectator viewing.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how the cyclists adapt themselves to a different circuit.” Mr Miller said. “The riders in the Lightsview team tell me it is typical of a European-style criterium race, which is fast, technical and tight. It should make the racing exciting to watch.”
Mr Miller said he also expected the cyclists to enjoy the experience because Lightsview was a relatively new development and had new roads.
“As well as enjoying different scenery, the cyclists will benefit from the circuit being on newly laid roads, which will make the race very smooth and fast,” he said.
Russell Van Hout, a member of the Lightsview team, recently came fourth during the national road cycling championships on January 10 at Ballarat, and is expected to perform well in the upcoming races.
Lightsview is a joint initiative of Canberra Investment Corporation and the State Government’s Land Management Corporation at Northgate. The first stages are now complete.
