Leading national construction company Hansen Yuncken has completed Crown’s latest development, the Crown Conference Centre at Southbank in Melbourne.
The $29 million construction project, completed on time and within budget, now enables Crown to cater for up to 840 delegates utilising up to 20 rooms on the one site.
The purpose built hotel convention facility, officially opened this week, has taken 14 months to complete and created employment for up to 150 workers during the height of the construction phase.
Hansen Yuncken Victorian Manager, David Bower, said the company was pleased to be able to deliver on a major addition to Victoria’s tourism and business infrastructure.
“The project required construction of the new conference hall from the ground to fourth floors, connecting seamlessly with the south western end of the Crown Promenade Hotel and including minor works within the existing hotel,” Mr Bower said.
“A key requirement of the project has been to minimise any disruption such as noise and dust to the operations of the existing Crown facility and its guests, while still maintaining our tight schedule. This meant we needed to be flexible with how the various aspects of the project were carried out.”
“The completed centre has been described as setting a new benchmark for conference venues in Australia, and we’re proud to have been involved in such a cutting-edge project.”
The centre features a pillar-less Crown Conference Hall featuring operable walls that will allow up to 840 delegates to be seated theatre-style while providing the option of using up to 19 concurrent rooms, all on the same floor.
Mr Bower said Hansen Yuncken has continued to build its reputation for delivering on iconic infrastructure projects in Melbourne and across Australia.
“In addition to the Crown facilities, Hansen Yuncken has recently delivered on the Waterfront City residential and retail precinct including the new CostCo store and the National Ice Sports Centre,” Mr Bower said.
“Our success has been built on developing specialist expertise and proven delivery capability in market sectors identified for strong growth.”
In 2008/09, Hansen Yuncken achieved record turnover of $943 million – elevating the company to the largest private commercial construction company in Australia.
It is currently delivering projects valued in excess of $2.5 billion, strengthening its balance sheet and enhancing its ability to continue to grow.
Hansen Yuncken, established in 1918, is Australia’s largest private commercial construction contractor. The company employs more than 700 people around Australia with offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Hobart, Cairns, Townsville, Newcastle and Shepparton/Albury.
