Back to where it all began as Coles returns to Rundle Mall
Coles will make its long-awaited return to Adelaide’s Rundle Mall next week when its newest store opens to the public on Tuesday 26 March as part of the eagerly-anticipated Rundle Place precinct.
Rundle Mall was the site of the very first Coles store to open in South Australia back in 1932, and later closed in 1985. Now, 81 years on, Coles returns to the Mall as part of its continued expansion in South Australia.
Significantly, the new store will be the first Coles supermarket in South Australia – and one of the first in Australia – to adopt a new “grab and go” concept which will give city shoppers access to a wide range of hearty pre-prepared takeaway meals from pizza and pasta to sushi and salads.
Coles is also set to become one of the largest employers in the Rundle Place development thanks to the creation of 109 full-time, part-time and casual jobs, which provides a welcome boost to local job seekers.
Coles South Australia General Manager Vito Borrello said Coles is delighted to return to Rundle Mall with a modern, market-style store.
“Rundle Mall represents an important part of Coles’ proud heritage in South Australia, so we’re really excited to be returning,” he said.
“Our new Rundle Mall store has been specifically designed around the shopping habits of city workers and residents, and includes convenient on-site car parking so customers can utilise the store for all their grocery needs large and small.
“We’re particularly pleased to launch our new ‘grab and go’ section to cater for busy city workers, with the Rundle Mall store to become the first Coles supermarket in South Australia to offer the concept.
“The ‘grab and go’ bar will feature a range of ready-to-go takeaway options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including single-serve meals from local suppliers such as Cibo, Cherry Blossom Sushi, Sunfresh Salads and Concetta’s Pizzas.
“Other key features of the new store include a bakery with delicious breads and cakes baked fresh every day by professional bakers, while a large deli section including a specialty cheese section is also expected to prove popular.
“Importantly, Coles Rundle Mall will continue to support South Australian food producers with more than 800 home-grown lines available at the new store, including some of the state’s best-loved local brands like Beerenberg, Spring Gully, Bickfords, Maggie Beer, Nippy’s, Emmaline’s Cakes and Balfours to name a few.
“We’re sure that those who live, work and shop in the city will be very impressed by what the new Coles Rundle Mall store has to offer.”
Coles Rundle Mall will open to the public at 8am on Tuesday 26 March.
