Buyers snap up $50 million of property as The Watson launches

21 March 2013

Buyers at The Watson Apartments have snapped up $50 million worth of property, defying a flat market and putting aside any doubt that South Australians aren’t keen to embrace apartment living.

Registered buyers were given the first chance to buy into The Watson Apartments, followed by a public launch at the weekend, which has seen 135 apartments sold by developers Asian Pacific Group and Project Sales and Marketing Agents Ironfish.

The apartments have sold to a mix of owner-occupiers and investors keen to take advantage of the affordable prices and unique nature of the development, which is located in the blue ribbon suburb of Walkerville.

Sixty-three per cent of the project is now sold but despite the strong sales, a range of apartments are still for sale including one bedroom apartments from just $270,000 and two bedroom apartments from $360,000. Most have sweeping views and all come with a car park.

Apartments are also still available on the penthouse level with the opportunity for buyers to with work with project architects Tectvs to design their own apartment.
Asian Pacific Group Chief Executive Officer Will Deague said the response to the launch of The Watson had been extremely positive with buyers coming from across Adelaide along with a few buyers from regional South Australia and interstate.

“Buyers have ranged from young professionals looking to live close to the City to empty nesters keen to downsize and enjoy the low maintenance lifestyle offered by The Watson,” said Mr Deague.

“Investors have also been keen to jump on board noting the pent up demand for rental accommodation in Walkerville and the strong capital growth potential.

“Buyers have recognised that the opportunity to buy a new apartment in Walkerville is unlikely to be offered again for many years to come.”

Residents at the Watson will enjoy an enviable lifestyle with full access to the Hotel facilities which will include eateries operated by renowned restaurateurs, a commercial business centre, an artist in residence studio, Michael Klim designed pool and deck, health and recreational facilities.

Residents will also be able to drive or cycle into the City by hiring one of the Hotel’s Smart Cars or Bicycles for a nominal fee.

By bike or on foot, residents will have direct access to the revitalised Riverbank precinct and Adelaide Oval via the Linear Park.

The Watson Apartments and Hotel are due to open in April 2014 and will form part of the Art Series Hotel Group.

The Group currently owns and operates The Cullen, The Olsen and The Blackman in Melbourne.  Each Art Series Hotel is designed to embody an iconic Australian artist’s individual style and characteristics.

The Watson is named after Tommy Watson, a senior Pitjantjatjara elder, and one of Australia's most collectable indigenous artists.

The Watson Apartments has an onsite Information Centre along and four display apartments now open to the public
