Support for Riverbank precinct zoning
The Urban Development Institute of Australia (SA) [UDIA] applauds the State Government’s decision to begin consultation on the proposed Development Plan Amendment that will allow delivery of the Riverbank precinct plan.
“By encouraging entertainment venues to be built along the River Torrens, and allowing major upgrades and development to occur in the precinct, the Government is supporting the creation of an entertainment precinct we can all be proud of,” said Terry Walsh, UDIA (SA) Executive Director.
“These projects are of interest to all South Australians eager to see greater vibrancy in the city.
“It is critical that planning rules be aligned to the design vision to enable good ideas to become reality without being unduly delayed.
“The property development industry commends the Government’s speed in introducing this amendment to take the precinct into the future.”
UDIA agrees the new planning framework will complement the current and planned $4 billion worth of investment in the greater Riverbank precinct, with much needed upgrades to the Adelaide Casino and Adelaide Festival Plaza to be made possible under the proposed changes.
“The Riverbank is a project area of interest to all South Australians. It is time to create a new precinct to benefit our city, our state and our people,” said Mr Walsh.
“We support the Government’s initiative and look forward to reviewing the draft proposals in detail.”
