Google street view technology first for Adelaide Airport
Adelaide Airport has become the first airport in Australia, and the second international airport in the world, to feature in Google Maps using Google’s indoor ‘Street View’ technology through its Google Business Photos initiative.
The navigation works like Street View so viewers can explore both the departures and arrivals levels of Adelaide Airport’s main terminal building, T1.
The technology even lets you ‘walk’ down one of the aerobridges and out alongside the edge of the runway in a 360 degree experience.
Carlos Zuluaga, one of Google’s ‘trusted photographers’ and who shot the images, said he understood Adelaide Airport was one of the first in the world to provide an interactive virtual tour in Google Maps for their visitors utilising the Google Business Photos program.
“Google Business Photos is being used more and more by businesses around Australia, particularly retailers, hotels and restaurants, but very few have been done on this scale,” Mr Zuluaga said.
“Adelaide Airport’s terminal was chosen because it’s currently the newest and most modern looking of Australia’s airports, so the images look very good. It was great to have access to the tarmac and even shoot by the edge of the runway - places that the general public can’t otherwise access.”
This virtual tour is composed of high quality 2436 HDR (High Dynamic Range) images linked together in 203 panoramic photos to cover the two levels of the terminal, the short-term car park and the pedestrian plaza. The photo shoot took three days.
Adelaide Airport Ltd Managing Director, Mark Young, said it was great to be able to use the latest Google Street View technology and Google Business Photos to showcase the domestic and international terminal, and the newly completed short term car park and plaza.
“Adelaide Airport’s main terminal remains the most modern and innovative of all the capital city airports in Australia, so we welcome the opportunity to show off what we have to a wider audience,” Mr Young said.
