Meet, taste, discover at Australia’s biggest and most awarded cellar door
Two new regions have been added to the Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide for 2014 with the Adelaide Plains and Eyre Peninsula now among the sixteen regions represented at the Festival (February 14-16, 2014).
More than 150 South Australian wineries will offer tastings of thousands of wines at the Festival including many new releases not available in retail outlets. Thirty new wineries will join the Festival in 2014.
As well as being able to explore by region, the Festival also includes a Varietal View, a feature where visitors can sample wines based on their variety rather than region.
The 2014 Festival will be the biggest showcase of South Australian wine and food with more than 8000 visitors expected to pass through the doors over three days.
The Festival program announced this week has South Australian food and produce playing a bigger part in the Festival alongside South Australian wine.
South Australian MasterChefcontestant now Thailand resident Marion Grasby will Guest Chef at the Festival and showcase her talents through a series of three Master Classes.
Dishes prepared by Marion during her Master Classes including the Long Table Lunch and Valentine’s Day Master Class will be matched by selected wines from the Festival.
South Australian cheese will also be a key feature of the 2014 Festival with a special cheese being created for the event by The Smelly Cheese Shop as well as a Fancy Pants Cheese and Wine Master Class. The Lane Vineyard’s Executive Chef James Brinklowwill also run a Master Class matching dishes to their single vineyard wines.
There will also be a Farmer’s Market, Meet the Maker demonstrations by local producers and a TAFESA interactive tasting area.
Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) has come on-board again as the Event MajorSponsor to promote the Premium Food & Wine From Our Clean Environment initiative, one of the South AustralianGovernment’s seven strategic priorities.
The Cellar Door Wine Festival is managed and hosted by the Adelaide Convention Centre.
ACC Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said the 2014 Festival will offer visitors new experiences, ideas and inspiration.
“The blend of South Australian wine and food is the perfect combination and the Festival brings them together under one roof so visitors are able to discover and sample the best of the state - simply and easily.”
“Many visitors to the Festival are introduced to wineries and food producers they’ve never come across before and may not have discovered unless they visited the region of origin.
“The Festival differs from other wine and food events because it’s educational and gives people a greater understanding of the characteristics of each region and the varying styles of the local wineries and producers.”
Each visitor is given a Riedel glass for unlimited tastings, a branded calico shopping bag and a passportthat includes notes about the regions and wine tasting tips to plan and record their Festival experience.
Wine buyers will be able to take advantage of a new ‘Pick n Pack’ service where 6 or 12 bottles of wine purchased at the Festival can be packed and shipped to any destination in Australia for only $7.
