Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide in the running for successive national MEA Awards

7 April 2014

The Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide, created, hosted and managed by the Adelaide Convention Centre, will compete to retain its national Meetings and Events Australia’s (MEA) Public Event of the Year title after winning the state award.

The Festival was named 2013 South Australian Public Event of the Year on Friday night at the MEA South Australia Gala cocktail function. Winners from each state compete for the national title in Kuala Lumpur in May.

Last year, the Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide won the national award helping the event to become Australia’s most awarded food and wine event.

The Festival’s other accolades include winning in successive years at the South Australian Tourism Awards, awards at the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) Awards for Excellence and the Australian Tourism Awards.

Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said the popularity of the Festival continues to grow with over 9,000 visitors passing through the doors of the Adelaide Convention Centre this year over the three days.

“The Festival grew by 30 per cent with a record number of visitors joining a record number of participating wineries and food producers,” said Mr Gilbert.

“The awards provide valuable recognition for the Centre and its ability to stage large exhibition style events.

“Managing the Festival ourselves has given us greater scope to explore different ways of staging exhibition style events, for developing new services and marketing initiatives and trialling the adoption of new technologies.”

Having only started in 2011, the Festival has quickly become one of the largest consumer wine event in the country by having the most exhibitors each year.

The Festival celebrates South Australian food and wine with over 170 wineries and food producers coming together to showcase their products under one roof at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

“It’s the only food and wine festival that’s truly reflective of the diversity of the state’s wine regions and produce with participants coming from fifteen separate regions,” said Mr Gilbert.

Next year’s Festival will be held from February 20th - 22nd, 2015.
