Food truck rolls into Adelaide Convention Centre in an Australian first
The popularity of Adelaide’s food truck and pop up culture has led the Adelaide Convention Centre to recreate the experience for guests attending events hosted at the Centre.
It’s the first time an Australian convention centre has offered pop up style catering to guests.
Event organisers taking advantage of the Centre’s Pop Up package will have their event space transformed into a city square lined with food trucks serving everything from noodles, mini-burgers and sushi to popcorn, fresh juice, ice cream and macarons.
The Centre’s design and staging team has created a city square feel complete with central water fountain, manicured flower bed, street lights, street furniture and market cart. ‘City street buskers’ can also be arranged to provide entertainment for guests.
Adelaide Convention Centre, Chief Executive Alec Gilbert, said the Adelaide Convention Centre is the first convention centre in Australia to bring the food truck and pop up culture into its events.
‘‘We’re always looking at ways of creating new experiences to ensure events are memorable for guests, said Mr Gilbert.
‘‘We looked closely at community events like Fork in the Road and admired the way they brought people together ---- it’s a very social experience.
‘‘Guests attending events like to network and the Pop Up package is a great way to encourage people to socialise.
‘‘The Pop Up package can be used in a number of different ways including as a conference lunch option, for a cocktail party or as part of a formal dinner.
‘‘At formal dinners, the Pop Up package replaces the traditional sit down entrée and dessert with guests served pre-dinner drinks in the City Square while they pick dishes from their favourite Food Trucks.
‘‘Guests then take their seats in the tradional manner for the main course and return to the City Square for desert and coffee.
‘‘This format makes for a very social experience.
‘‘It also provides an opportunity for the Centre to showcase the versatility of its chefs who get a chance to cook dishes in many different styles and from many different cultures, all at a single event."
