Plans approved for new $65m Grenfell Street Hotel
Plans for a $65 million hotel development from Hines Property on the corner of Grenfell Street and Twin Street in Adelaide have been approved by the State’s Development Assessment Commission.
The green light enables developer Hines Property to commence construction of the 17-storey hotel later this year ahead of projected completion in 2014.
Construction works will include demolition of the existing buildings on-site with the hotel to include 300 guest rooms, food and beverage facilities, fitness centre, conference and meeting spaces, guest lounge and business facilities.
Hines Property Managing Director James Hines said the company is looking forward to breaking ground on the project in the second half of 2012, which is expected to create more than 200 jobs during construction and then 80 permanent positions once the hotel opens.
“This hotel is going to be an outstanding new addition to the CBD and will contribute to Adelaide’s growth as a city in line with other exciting major projects such as the Adelaide Oval upgrade and the Riverbank expansion,” said Mr Hines, adding that an announcement will be made soon regarding an international operator to manage the hotel.
This latest project marks the fifth major development undertaken by Hines Property in the Hindmarsh Square precinct having recently completed the nearby $100 million Crowne Plaza Adelaide hotel and the adjoining $50 million 20 Hindmarsh Square apartments complex. Hines Property also developed the $70 million Conservatory on Hindmarsh Square, the $30 million Domain Apartments development and the $50 million Mantra on Hindmarsh Square serviced apartments development.
Hines Property is an integrated property development and property investment group with experience across high-rise residential developments, commercial/retail developments and hotel developments. As one of the most active developers in SA, Hines Property has recently completed more than $300 million of developments in the Adelaide CBD area alone.
