Construction starts on Adelaide’s tallest residential building
Construction started today (September 2) on Vue on King William, Adelaide’s tallest residential building, with the developers and the Hon Jay Weatherill, Premier of South Australia breaking ground on the site.
The 28 storey building will take approximately 18 months to build and create over 200 jobs during construction.
11,500 cubic metres of concrete, 750 tonnes of steel reinforcement and 8,000 square metres of glass will be used to construct the 85 metre building, which will be Adelaide’s first curtain wall residential building.
Eighty-two per cent of the $100 million apartment development has sold since being taken to the market on May 10th. Fifty-five per cent of the 168 apartments sold to date have been purchased by owner occupiers.
Vue on King William is a joint venture between Adelaide-based Starfish Developments and Melbourne-based Asian Pacific Group.
Vue was one of the first to take advantage of the state government’s pre-lodgement and design review process and is the first significant residential project to commence construction since the planning reforms were introduced.
The city planning reforms have helped unlock 73 potential development projects, valued at $3.1 billion with 38 of these already approved by the Development Assessment Commission.
Starfish Developments Managing Director Damon Nagel said Vue’s unique twisted glass frontage will set a new benchmark for apartment building design in Adelaide.
“Residents will enjoy breathtaking views over the city, southern parklands towards the hills and Adelaide coastline down to Hallett Cove,” said Mr Nagel.
“Many of the buyers at Vue are planning to move into the city from the suburbs and the building will be home to a mix of young professionals and empty nesters looking to downsize and enjoy a low maintenance city lifestyle.”
Vue brings a new style of residential architecture to Adelaide with its 5 level podium, recessed Level 6 roof top garden, pool deck and recreation centre and 21 level glass frontage. It will feature 205 apartments with a maximum of 10 apartments on a single level.
The building has been designed by leading architects Woods Bagot, led by Principal Gavin Kain, alongside Design Architect Enzo Caroscio and a South Australian team.
Asian Pacific Group Chief Executive Officer Will Deague said our investment in Vue follows the success of The Watson at Walkerville, our first South Australian project.
“The response to The Watson and the state government’s investment in the CBD and Riverbank precinct gave us the confidence to invest further in South Australia with Vue on King William.
“We’ve been delighted with the support we’ve received from the community and buyers and impressed with the quality of consultants and local tradespeople working on our projects.”
In October, the five penthouses at Vue will be launched with prices starting from $1.2 million.
