City residents to swim in the sky
Adelaide’s first sky pool will provide wet window on the world
Residents of the $300 million West Franklin apartment complex in Adelaide’s CBD will be able to “swim in the sky” thanks to a glass fronted swimming pool perched eight stories above street level.
The vision for West Franklin driven by its developer Mr Nicho Teng and to be realised through the expertise of Adelaide architects Brown Falconer and engineers Wallbridge and Gilbert will see Adelaide’s first ‘sky pool’ open for the exclusive use of residents when the first stage of the 560 apartment complex is completed late next year.
The indoor pool – overlooking Elizabeth Street with views across the city to the coast - will be 24 metres long (almost half an Olympic length) and 3.6 metres wide. The west facing glass wall will be 30mm thick and engineered to contain 100 tonnes of water.
“It’s all about making West Franklin an exciting, lifestyle-oriented environment which not only provides a great place to live but which adds to the vitality of Adelaide’s west,” Brown Falconer Director, Mr David Dawson said.
“Adelaide will join a select group of cities around the world including New York, London, Melbourne and Mumbai to boast high-rise pools with an underwater view,” Mr Dawson said.
“From a design perspective it’s funky, fun and surprising – reflecting characteristics sought by the next generation of city dwellers and responding directly to our client’s vision for a world standard development.”
Mr Teng said the essence of city living revolved around lifestyle and convenience.
Other lifestyle drawcards at West Franklin include an exclusive health spa, fully equipped gymnasium and a state of the art golf-driving simulator. Residents will also have access to a private cinema, a communal dining room with full chef’s kitchen and a modern business centre. There will also be speciality retail outlets, a supermarket and café at street level.
“Lifestyle factors were at the forefront of our thinking when planning this project, with the result that we’ll be delivering a broad mix of apartment options, a choice of recreation spaces within the complex, and convenient food and retail offerings at ground level,” Mr Teng said.
“All this, combined with a location only a few minutes walk to work, entertainment and more open space in the nearby parklands than offered by New York’s Central Park and London’s Hyde Park combined!”
Site preparation will commence next month while construction of the first stage of the project will start in July for likely completion in late 2017. Mr Teng said it was planned that construction would then move seamlessly into the second stage of the development – providing continuity of employment for up to 1,350 construction industry workers until 2019 .
The first stage of West Franklin will comprise 280 one, two and three bedroom apartments over 22 levels priced from $270,000 for studio apartments up to more than $2.1 million for a penthouse.
The project is being sold by Connekt Urban Projects in conjunction with DG Real Estate. Further information is available by visiting the Information and Sales Centre on the corner of Franklin and Morphett Streets, clicking on www.westfranklin.com.au or calling 1300 992 166.
