2013 Festival to boast Australia’s biggest Cellar Door
Australia’s biggest Cellar Door will be created when more than 150 South Australian wineries come together under one roof at the 2013 Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide (February 22 -24, 2013).
In its third year, the 2013 Festival has attracted 30 new wineries to the annual event, which will feature thousands of wines from 13 iconic South Australian regions.
A full list of the participating wineries is available on the Festival website www.cellardoorfestival.com
Next year’s Festival will put a greater emphasis on South Australian food with a Tastes of SA Demonstration Stage and a new food producer’s area, supported by Event Major Sponsor, Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA).
The Cellar Door Wine Festival is managed and hosted by the Adelaide Convention Centre.
ACC Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said the Festival is developing into the biggest of its kind in Australia.
“Many visitors to the Festival are introduced to wineries they’ve never come across before and follow up research indicates they often later visit the winery as a result, said Mr. Gilbert.
“Also, some of the smaller wineries don’t have cellar doors so the Festival provides a unique opportunity for visitors to meet these winemakers.
“The Festival differs from other wine events because it’s educational and gives people a greater understanding of the characteristics of each region and the varying winemaking styles of the local wineries.
“Each visitor is given a Riedel glass for unlimited tastings, a branded calico shopping bag and a passport that includes notes about the regions and wine tasting tips to plan and record their Festival experience.
For visitors keen to learn a little more, a series of Master Classes will again be offered including an “SA Seafood and White Wine Showcase” and “Emerging Trends” - a journey through the newest and most exciting varietals to hit the shelves.
The new Food Producers’ area will feature a collection of emerging foodies showcasing their wares to a discerning audience, many for the first time”.
PIRSA Chief Executive, Ian Nightingale, said the area would ensure small regional food producers were represented, and demonstrated the Government’s commitment to fostering new growth in the food industry.
“We believe assisting new and smaller food producers take part in this event will help them access an audience they previously haven’t been able to target, and therefore grow their business,” Mr Nightingale said.
“Small food businesses will soon be able to apply to be part of this showcase of SA’s premium food and wine.”
Tickets are now on sale and if purchased before December 31st 2012 visitors can enjoy a special early bird rate.
The Festival kicks off with an Industry Harvest, a trade only event on Friday afternoon (February 22), before opening to the public at 5pm till 9pm. The Festival then runs all weekend from 11am – 6pm each day.
Wine buyers will be able to take advantage of a new ‘Pick n Pack’ service where 6 or 12 bottles of wine purchased at the Festival can be packed and shipped to any destination in Australia for only $7.
