

Alexander Symonds applauds Surveyor-General appointment
Leading South Australian surveying consultancy Alexander Symonds has applauded the appointment of one of its senior directors as the state’s new Surveyor-General.
Michael Burdett has been officially announced as the successor to Peter Kentish and will take on the State Government’s top surveying job as the first private sector appointment in over 40 years.
Alexander Symonds Managing Director Jim Curnow says Mr Burdett’s selection as Surveyor-General is excellent news for the development industry and the state.
“Mike is one of the most experienced and well respected surveyors in the country and has been a terrific asset for Alexander Symonds for more than 20 years,” said Mr Curnow.
“His knowledge of surveying practices is exceptional so his appointment as the state’s new Surveyor-General is thoroughly deserved.
“His appointment is also a fantastic endorsement of the work he and the wider team at Alexander Symonds has achieved over the years and confirms the consultancy as one of South Australia’s top surveying firms.”
Mr Burdett becomes South Australia’s 22nd Surveyor-General since Colonel William Light first assumed the role back in 1836 when the site for Adelaide was originally chosen. He will be responsible for the issuing, monitoring and policing of survey practice standards throughout SA along with other significant statutory responsibilities.
Mr Burdett has formed part of the Alexander Symonds team since 1990 during which time he has been involved in many award-winning development and infrastructure projects spanning the residential, commercial and industrial sectors both locally and overseas.
Established in Adelaide in 1932, Alexander Symonds now employs 75 staff across three offices in SA and Victoria and is an expert in property, land division, infrastructure, mining, licensed, engineering and hydrographic surveys.
