VAILO Wins Two Australian Good Design Awards 2024
Australian premium lighting manufacturer VAILO has picked up two Australian Good Design Awards for its Zenith Gen-V PC Amber Floodlight, recognising excellence in design and innovation.
The awards, which were announced in Sydney on Friday, showcase the pinnacle of excellence in the design, architecture, engineering and business sectors.
VAILO’s ‘PC Amber’ received a prestigious Good Design Award Winner Accolade in both the Engineering Design and Product Design categories for exceptional design and innovation – and were the third and fourth to have been won by the company in three years.
This year’s theme, "The Design Effect", underscored the crucial role design played in shaping better products, services, spaces, and experiences while driving the transition to a more sustainable, less carbon-intensive future.
The VAILO 1000W Zenith Gen-V PC Amber Luminaire was designed for outdoor area lighting, focusing on effective illumination while minimising disruption to nocturnal wildlife, with the judges citing the light balanced “human usability with ecological sensitivity.”
“The balance between effective lighting and ecological considerations make this luminaire a noteworthy innovation in outdoor lighting. Well done.”
VAILO founder and Chief Executive Aaron Hickmann said the industry recognition was important for his team, which had put a significant amount of time into developing the Zenith PC Amber Floodlight.
“We’re very proud of this light, and we are continuously researching new ways to develop our products for the Australian lifestyle and create less of an environmental footprint,” Mr Hickmann said.
“Unlike traditional white or blue lights, which can disrupt natural behaviours of nocturnal animals and heavily attract insects, the Zenith Gen-V PC Amber uses PC Amber-coloured LED lights to provide a light source which complements the environment. It’s an environmentally friendly lighting option for wildlife-sensitive areas.”
Rachel Wye, Managing Director of Good Design Australia, said this year’s awards reflected the profound ripple effects that exceptional design could have on people, place and planet.
“The projects honoured in these Awards exemplify how thoughtful design can drive meaningful change, not only enhancing user experiences and the way people interact with the world, but also contributing to a more sustainable and more prosperous future,” Ms Wye said.
“The Australian Good Design Awards are proud to recognise the truly inspirational work that is being done across different design disciplines, sectors and industries in Australia and overseas.”
The 2024 Awards highlighted excellence across 12 Design Disciplines, covering more than 32 Categories.
This year's entries were rigorously evaluated by more than 80 distinguished Jurors from around the globe, including designers, engineers, architects, and industry leaders.
The evaluation process focused on three core criteria: Good Design, Design Innovation, and Design Impact, ensuring that each winner demonstrated outstanding design quality and effectiveness.
The Australian Good Design Awards highlight how design not only enhances functionality and aesthetics, but also contributes significantly to business success and societal advancement.
With its roots dating back to 1958, the Australian Good Design Awards, is the country’s most prestigious international accolade for design and innovation. As the Awards mark another year of excellence, they continue to reflect the rich heritage and future potential of Australian and international design.
